THANKS TO OUR SPONSORS

The heart and soul of our festival can be summed up into 3 words, “WORK THEN PLAY”. IndependentFest is a one-day event that is produced and organized by a group of Ohio University Alumni, as well as members of the Athens, Ohio community. The purpose of IndependentFest is to celebrate the arts, while creating an environment in which music and culture work hand-in-hand by providing career opportunities and support. The festival will also serve as a means to give back to the community. A portion of the proceeds from the festival will be donated to the victims of the Union Street fire as well as various community organizations that represent the spirit of our festival in southeast Ohio and nationwide. The IndependentFest team is working directly with Nelsonville Music Festival, Stuart’s Opera House, Hocking College School of Music and local business owners for "IDX1".

IndependentFest Zero Waste

The 2015 IndependentFest team is teaming up with Rural Action’s Zero Waste Program to make its music and arts festival more sustainable while striving for our goal of Zero Waste to the landfill. We will be striving to divert as much material from the landfill as possible by sorting out all the compost and recycling generated at the event. Food vendors at the event have agreed to use only compostable materials and have promised not to distribute any materials that can’t be recycled, reused, or composted.

While preparations have been made, we need your help to reach our zero waste goal! Please avoid bringing any type of trash into the festival and bring a water bottle that can be refilled at our filtered water stations. There will be several Resource Recovery Stations placed throughout the grounds to collect all the recycling and compost generated during the event. Do the Zero Waste team a favor and place materials in the properly labeled bin to make the sorting process easier. If you are interested in lending a hand, please sign up to volunteer with Zero Waste in exchange for a free ticket to the show!

We all love to listen to music and have a good time. With your help, we can work together to make IndependentFest not only a great experience for the people, but great for the environment as well. We hope to see you there!
